We have now met the three daughters of Hopper Scotch, legendary explorer of The Ninth World. We have met Aggie the champion, Cory the con artist, and Mari the wallflower.
Aggie and Mari are in a bit of a pinch with Aggie having used bees to attempt to win her boostball game while Mari desperately tries to convince the other team that this isn’t cheating. However, I wanna put a pin in that for right now and return to Cory. I’m only partially saying this because I’m traveling the week this part of the chapter releases and I need to record it early.
[Upbeat swing music begins.]
Cory always liked Neulettia. It was this glistening, bustling city that continuously moved throughout The Ninth World so it was never in the same place at once. Sure, she wished she could see it back when it was in its prime, back when it was called Roulettia and was this den of crime and cons with a smiling coat of paint pasted over it, but those days were gone and the new Neulettia run by Mayor Vespari was focused more on making that family-friendly cover the actual face of the city. If you wanted to find something truly interesting, you had to look for it.
[Rolls.] With a 15, Cory knew where not to look, and it was just coincidentally, purely coincidentally, where her sister’s boostball game was playing. I mean, teenager sports, even late teenager sports, were never gonna have the excitement that she was really craving for. She could go to Piper’s Pit, the theater district of Neulettia, but scalping tickets for plays was the most boring kind of con she could imagine. So, Cory went up to Manny’s Prosthetic Intestine, a district of the city covered entirely by an elaborate rollercoaster.
In its heyday, Manny’s Prosthetic Intestine was the go-to place for where small meetings needed to be. Because of the haphazard design, there were many nooks and crannies where nefarious deals could take place. Since the rollercoaster had been made more safe, many of these areas became more formalized, as additional structures for the rollercoaster could in turn make the foundation for fully-functional buildings, but buildings lead alleyways, and in one of these alleyways Cory was sure that she’d find something interesting.
[Rolls.] However, with a 3, the thing that Cory would find would be far more than interesting… it would be deadly.
[Music ends.]
Kyle (as Q-BO)
[Bloop.] Oh dear, it looks like Cory has stumbled across something or someone she shouldn’t have. That’s my question for you today. What terrible thing or person, or both, has Cory stumbled upon? You don’t need to explain why it’s bad, just what it is.
